Take Time to Notice

Are you going somewhere exciting in the holidays? Maybe you are just staying home. Every day there are amazing things that happen around us, even in our homes and backyards but sometimes we are so busy that we never take time to notice. These holidays I would encourage you to raise your awareness, open your eyes, be alert and find something amazing, something unusual, something funny or even something sad, take a photo of it and email it to me with a short comment, explaining what the photo is about.

As I will be posting your photos, make sure that, if your photographs are of people, you have permission to upload their photos onto the interent. If you do not want the photo uploaded on the internet, let me know when you send it to me.

Have a great break. Rest, read and re-energise for a busy Term 3.

And the winners are . . .

The Post It competiton is finally over. Thank you to all those students who participated in the competition and contributed to the class blog. As well as receiving merit certificates for your efforts, you also had an opportunity to improve your writing skills and learnt how to access and use your school email accounts. However there can only be 1 winner . . . well in this case 4 winners.

Congratulations to Sanna, Asma, Nbeela and Fatima who produced pieces of writing that were original and creative in thought, well edited and neatly presented.

The Golden Slippers

Read Sanna’s narrative called “The Golden Slippers”. What do you think the message is behind her story?

Once, in an old village there lived a young boy named Andrew. He lived with his mum and his dad.      His mum and dad worked very hard to earn money and to buy food.

Slowly and slowly Andrew’s family ran out of money. They were very sad and had to take money from his greedy rich Uncle Tom. One day when Andrew went to get some money from his uncle his uncle said “no”,  I have lent you and your family too much money. Sadly, Andrew left his uncle’s house and sat under a tree in a park. Then a man came and asked Andrew “what’s wrong”. Andrew answered, “My family and I are very poor and we have had nothing to eat for days.” Instead of the man feeling sad the man just laughed and said “here take this” and handed him the golden slippers. He told him to use them properly and money will appear every where you step. Use only what you need and you will be fine but if you get greedy about taking as much money as you can you will shrink slowly. Andrew only used the slippers when he needed them. The slippers really were magical, wherever he would step, golden coins would appear. Soon their greedy uncle found out what was going on and stole the golden slippers from Andrew. Andrew was shocked. When Andrew arrived at his uncle’s house the house was filled with golden coins but his uncle had shrunk. He was a little tiny man only the size of your longest finger. Andrew grabbed the golden slippers and headed back home.

From then on Andrew kept the shoes in a safe locked box and made sure that no one else tried to steal them ever again.

Are Team Sports better than Individual Sports?

Read Asma’s discussion about team vs individual sports. Leave a comment, which do you prefer and why?

Are team sports better than individual sports? A variety of views exist about the issue of team sports being better than individual sports. Firstly, team sports have an advantage in this issue because team members encourage each other to use their ability. Another reason is that team sports have substitutes, if you are sick and can’t play, other team mates can replace you. Furthermore, team sports can give you an opportunity to learn new strategies and skills from other team members and you all share the responsibilities.

A differing perspective is individual sports cause less distraction and you are more able to focus on your development. Furthermore, individual sports help people to be self reliant, develop self-discipline and be more in charge of their actions.

It looks like both sides make some good points. Maybe some people would prefer team sports and some would prefer individual sports.  However, both of these options have advantages and disadvantages.

Challenge 7: Shades of . . . Red

Red is my favourite colour because it represents happiness and friendship. Red also represents the poppies worn by people on Anzac Day. However, sometimes red represents anger and embarrassment. In China, red is the most popular colour. It is used for their flag, the Red Dragon and means good luck.

Red Nose Day is also associated with red. My country’s flag also consists of red. When I think of red I immediately think of flowers, clothes, red nail-polish, apples, tomatoes, head-bands, posters, love and friendship. I also like the colour red because I like strawberries and tomatoes and they are both red. Red also symbolizes hope and love.

Go Wild and Add Links

Challenge 8 of the Blogging Challenge asks you to think and write about an animal you would like to seen in its natural habitat, i.e. in the wild rather than in a zoo. You might like to do a search and find some useful websites that show your chosen animal in their natural environment. National Geographic for kids and BBC Wild are 2 websites I found that could be useful when exploring animals in the wild. Leave a comment on this post with links to any websites you have enjoyed reading about animals in the wild.
